Descripción

During the past three years the gamma ray group at CIEMAT has led the installation of an intensity interferometer at the MAGIC telescopes. The technique will be quickly reviewed, detailing a few fresh results of this instrument and the science that we are targeting in the next year. The setup will soon be tested together with the first CTA LST and should be easy to expand to all LSTs of CTA-North. This would enhance our sensitivity and significantly expand our scientific targets. However the technique has the potential to improve our angular resolution way beyond any other astronomical instruments: into the sub-microarcsecond regime. What new technologies are required and the synergies with other fields will be discussed. And finally the speaker will try to convince us that such an increase in angular sensitivity would be transformational in astrophysics.
