Description

In this talk, we discuss the search opportunities presented by neutrino experiments in the hunt for low-energy new physics. Focusing primarily on models of heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) in which the HNLs are part of a richer dark sector, we overview the typical signatures and the corresponding search strategies in LArTPC detectors. We further consider the impact of decoupling the production and detection of these new particles on the experimental sensitivity, taking as a concrete example HNLs coupled to axion-like particles (ALPs). In such models, the HNL flux is predominantly associated with the flux of neutral mesons (e.g. π0, η), as opposed to the charged mesons (e.g. π±, Κ±). In this scenario, we show that experiments like DUNE may be sensitive to HNLs that are too weakly coupled to the standard model to be produced via weak interactions, potentially probing the parameter space of the type-I seesaw mechanism.
