Description

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, previously known as WFIRST, is NASA's next flagship mission. Slated to be launch-ready in October 2026, it plans to map the sky in the infrared with Hubble-like resolution, but 100-times larger field-of-view. Roman is planned as a survey telescope, having about 75% of its observing time allocated to the so-called Core Community Surveys, and about 25% to General Astrophysics observations. In this talk, I will go over Roman's main instruments and scientific goals. I will also give some details about the status of the instrument after its second thermal vacuum campaign, and updates about the Core Community survey definition process. Finally, I will also mention potential synergies with other Stage IV dark energy experiments, opening an exciting era in cosmology.
