DESCRIPTION:The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle and th
e only quark that decays before hadronisation\, and thus gives direct acce
ss to its properties. With its large mass\, it plays a crucial role for te
sting the predictions of the Standard Model (SM) and in the measurement of
the Higgs boson properties. Moreover\, various scenarios of physics beyon
d the SM expect the top quark to couple to new particles. The large data sa
mples collected at the CERN LHC allow performing very precise measurements
of top quark production and properties\, challenging the accuracy of the
state-of-the-art SM theoretical predictions\, as well as measuring for the
first time very rare top quark SM processes and extending the scope of se
arches for non-SM interactions. In this presentation\, I will highlight a
selection of recent top-quark physics measurements performed with the ATLA
S experiment\, covering the observation of several rare processes\, proper
ty measurements and interpretations in the context of Effective Field Theo
