Description

Intensity interferometry usually treats stars as static, yet Be-star disks rotate and binaries orbit. In Stanic et al. (2026) we showed that such motion breaks the time symmetry of the HBT correlation. On non-zero baselines, the correlation peak shifts away from zero lag, in a direction set by the sense of rotation.
Here we present a tabletop experiment to test this under controlled conditions. A 532 nm laser is made pseudothermal by a rotating diffuser and split by an acousto-optic modulator into an unshifted beam and a beam shifted by 110 MHz. Recombined, the two beams form a travelling interference pattern on two fast photodiodes, a laboratory analogue of drifting speckle. The setup is complete, and first measurements are under way.
